Welcome to the Yamada Language Center!
We are the University's service and technology center for language teaching and learning.
Besides supporting teaching efforts in Romance Languages, East Asian Languages, German and Scandinavian, REESC, and the American English Institute, we're also the home for the World Languages Academy and the Selfstudy Language Program, two innovative programs focused on expanding opportunities for the study of "less commonly taught languages" at UO.
Let us help you make your language teaching/learning more meaningful and productive--here are a few suggestions that, if used wisely, may help you become a more autonomous learner:
- Tutoring: YLC's Language Exchange, UO-TLC's tutoring (French and Spanish only), and, online at: The Mixxer
- Flashcard software (reminders, mobile apps, web-based): Popling, Mental Case, and Flashcard Exchange.Com
- Translators and dictionaries: Google, Babel Fish, and Firefox Add-ons
- Live: Language Circles, Conversation Hours, International Coffee Hour, Film Series, and Lectures
