Welcome to the Yamada Language Center!

We are the University's service and technology center for language teaching and learning.

Besides supporting teaching efforts in Romance Languages, East Asian Languages, German and Scandinavian, REESC, and the American English Institute, we're also the home for the World Languages Academy and the Selfstudy Language Program, two innovative programs focused on expanding opportunities for the study of "less commonly taught languages" at UO.

Let us help you make your language teaching/learning more meaningful and productive--here are a few suggestions that, if used wisely, may help you become a more autonomous learner:

New & Noteworthy

  • YLC's resource centers are closed for the Winter break beginning December 10. But we'll still be working. Don't hesitate to contact us with questions or materials for the upcoming term. Interested in being a beta tester of our new website? Please drop us a line.
  • Melanie Williams' FR 201 students recently completed a real time, term-long, face-to-face (virtual) exchange with peers at Lyon 2 in France -- it went well!
  • The Oregon Petrarch Open Book is now available. This multilingual website, devoted to Francis Petrarch's 14th century classic, the Canzoniere, permits students and scholars to study the text and related works in new and interesting ways.
  • A profile of how ANVILL is used in a Japanese immersion program appears in this month's edition of IT Connections, an online and print publication of UO Information Services. In addition, project manager Jeff Magoto has a short article in the in the ATJO newsletter about the possibilities for lesson authoring and language exchanges that ANVILL offers.
